Qualifications

• High School graduation plus 2–3 years of satisfactory work experience as a steamfitter or boiler's helper or apprentice or related experience in a powerhouse with similar equipment.

Responsibilities

• Starts boiler fires as required and assumes control of operating boilers from the preceding shift.
• Controls combustion rate by adjusting indirect draft, flu draft, and fuel stoker rate.
• Reads charts and gauges to monitor load demand and maintains boiler water levels and safety.
• Maintains water feed pumps and boiler hopper fuel supply; records fuel and steam data every shift.
• Performs general maintenance and assists in mechanical repairs as directed.
