Job summary

The University of Minnesota, Duluth is seeking a Boiler Plant Operator to operate, monitor, and repair high and low pressure steam boilers and related equipment. The role requires a rotating 24/7 shift, safe operation, and compliance with licensing requirements.

Responsibilities include starting and regulating boilers, maintaining pumps, testing boiler water, logging readings, and responding to alarms. This in‑person position offers overtime eligibility and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High School graduation or equivalent plus three years of experience in steam plant operation/maintenance
• First Class Engineer License grade B or higher required
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical tasks

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor high and low pressure boilers and auxiliaries
• Maintain feed water pumps, condensate pumps, and related equipment
• Respond to boiler alarms and emergencies
• Complete daily log sheets and basic safety training
• Take readings and keep equipment in safe, efficient condition
