Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking a Stationary Engineer for Jersey City Medical Center. You will operate, maintain, and repair boilers and related equipment to support a safe, reliable hospital environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on mechanical work, preventive maintenance, and monitoring of critical systems. A high school diploma and a NJ Black Seal license are required, with at least three years of boiler experience. Evening schedule applies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with hands-on boiler-system training.
• Minimum three years of direct work experience with boilers and generating equipment.
• Valid New Jersey Stationary Engineer Black Seal license.
• Full-time, evening shift; hours 2:30pm-10:30pm; ability to work as required.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and maintain gas- and oil-fired boilers, chillers, heaters and powerhouse equipment.
• Monitor boiler feed-water levels and fuel-to-air ratios for proper combustion and efficiency.
• Test boiler feed water and maintain water treatment programs.
• Clean fuel oil burners and perform lubrication, adjustments, troubleshooting and repairs.
• Perform preventive maintenance on boiler room machinery, incinerators and laundry equipment.
• Monitor building management, fire alarm, and medical gas systems.
• Record steam pressure, water levels, fuel oil pressure, and stack temperatures in logbooks.
• Perform hands-on mechanical maintenance and pipe-fitting work to keep equipment functional.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized powerhouse environment.
• Assist with snow removal when necessary.
