Job summary

Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh seeks a Boiler Plant Operator for the Bellefield Boiler Plant in Pittsburgh, PA. The role ensures safe operation during shifts, performs preventative maintenance, and coordinates with the Plant Operating Engineer.

Requirements include a Second Class Engineer’s license (NIULPE) or Class A City of Pittsburgh license, at least five years of high-pressure steam experience, and the ability to read one-line diagrams. Valid driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• High school education required.
• Second Class Engineer’s license (NIULPE) or Class A City of Pittsburgh Operating Engineers license, and steam distribution experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in operation of high pressure steam systems.
• Working knowledge of MS Windows, Word and Excel.
• Ability to effectively communicate.
• Knowledge of BAS systems Delta V is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform all task assignments for preventative/required maintenance or repairs as directed, ensuring safe operation during shift.
• Manage duties safely and report equipment problems to Plant Operating Engineer.
• Boiler water testing and adjusting chemical treatment and blowdown.
• Polisher and softener testing and service placement.
• Assist with placing boilers into service and equipment into service.
• Lubricate operating equipment, check chemical tanks and inventory, and inspect/maintain equipment.
• Create one-line diagrams of Bellefield Boiler Plant systems as needed.
• Adhere to EPA, OSHA, NFPA guidelines and fill vacations/sick leave for Operating Engineer.
