Job summary

Washington State Department of Social & Health Services (DSHS) Rainier School Habilitation Center in Buckley, WA, seeks a Boiler Operator (Stationary Engineer 2) on an on-call basis. Initial six months may be full-time temporarily to support onboarding and training before shifting to on-call status with variable shifts.

Responsibilities include operating a two-boiler steam plant, maintaining gauges and safety systems, and performing repairs on boiler/HVAC equipment.

Qualifications

Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of stationary or marine high-pressure boilers and heating systems.
Advanced Stationary Engineer course from an accredited vocational/technical school or community college, with two years of relevant experience in boilers and heating systems.
One year of State service as a Stationary Engineer 1.

Responsibilities

Ensure the safe and efficient operation of a high-pressure steam plant with two steam-generating boilers.
Monitor, inspect, and repair gauges, valves, pumps, boilers, electronic controls, and safety equipment.
Operate and maintain auxiliary systems, including feed-water and condensate pumps, deaerators, air compressors, fuel systems, and emergency generators.
Troubleshoot and perform both minor and major repairs on boiler and HVAC systems.
Interpret schematics, drawings, and operating manuals to support proper operation and equipment upgrades.
Operate and adjust Cleaver-Brooks Boiler Management (HAWK) systems as needed.
Conduct equipment testing, water treatment, and blow-down procedures to ensure safe and compliant operations.
