Job summary

Sierra Pacific Industries is seeking a qualified Boiler Operations Engineer to support boiler operations and maintenance across sites in California or Oregon. The role develops chemistry standards, instrumentation, and training for field teams.

The position requires expertise in boiler chemistry, QA, and compliance with safety and environmental requirements, with travel up to 40% across divisions.

Qualifications

• Navy engineer or boilerman experience with boiler operator certification and demonstrated competence in quality assurance and testing.
• College coursework or working experience in industrial water treatment, chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer, or power generation is preferred.
• Knowledge of boiler-water and steam-cycle chemistry, corrosion and deposition, pretreatment and chemical-feed systems is desirable.
• Ability to interpret chemistry and operating data and develop procedures with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain standardized chemistry requirements for boiler and cooling-water systems.
• Establish boiler O&M standards including sampling points, test methods, equipment, reagents, frequencies, procedures, test logs.
• Translate boiler O&M standards into data-validation rules, diagnostic responses, corrective actions, training requirements, and content for company information systems.
• Support field implementation and continuous improvement.
• Administer testing quality control including training and corrective actions program.
• Train operating personnel in sampling, analytical methods, equipment use, recordkeeping, and data validation.
• Review chemistry and operating data to distinguish analytical error from credible process excursions.
• Identify adverse trends, recurring problems, and opportunities to improve treatment, efficiency, and reliability.
• Lead or support investigations and corrective actions involving corrosion, deposition, carryover, contamination, condenser leakage, and related failures; verify implementation.
• Develop operating, maintenance, outage, commissioning, and capital-improvement recommendations for boilers and linked systems.
• Maintain controlled procedures, specifications, records, and training materials.
• Coordinate with division personnel, laboratories, vendors, contractors, and manufacturers; verify technical recommendations.
• Frequent travel to other divisions in California, Oregon, and Washington, including overnight stays.
