Job summary

Engineer - Boiler Operations at Sierra Pacific Industries in Redding, CA seeks a professional to develop and maintain boiler water and cooling-water chemistry standards in coordination with O&M program engineers. Travel up to 40% across divisions in CA, OR, WA for field support and continuous improvement.

You will train personnel, establish testing protocols, and translate standards into system content while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Navy engineer or boilerman experience with boiler operator certification and demonstrated competence in quality assurance and testing
• College coursework or working experience in industrial water treatment, chemistry, thermodynamics, heat transfer, or power generation is preferred
• Knowledge of boiler-water and steam-cycle chemistry, corrosion and deposition, pretreatment and chemical-feed systems, sampling, and field or laboratory analytical methods
• Working knowledge of applicable safety and environmental requirements
• Demonstrated ability to interpret chemistry and operating data; apply quality-assurance, method-validation, and root-cause-analysis principles; and develop clear procedures, standards, training materials, and engineering recommendations with progressively less supervision
• Ability to work across multiple divisions and priorities and, as proficiency develops, train and qualify operating personnel
• Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, operations information systems, and process-control or historian data; familiarity with SCADA is preferred
• Demonstrated commitment to technical integrity, accurate records, Company policy, and regulatory compliance
• Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time, including occasional extended time away from home

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain standardized chemistry requirements for boiler and cooling-water systems in coordination with the Boiler Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Program Engineer and division personnel
• Establish boiler O&M standards including sampling points, test methods, equipment, reagents, frequencies, procedures, test registers, chemistry limits, log sheets, control charts
• Translate boiler O&M standards into governed requirements, data-validation rules, diagnostic responses, corrective actions, training requirements, and technical content for Company information systems
• Support field implementation and continuous improvement
• Administer testing quality control including training and corrective actions program
• Train and qualify operating personnel in sampling, analytical methods, equipment use, recordkeeping, data validation, and response to abnormal conditions
• Review chemistry and operating data to distinguish analytical error from credible process excursions
• Identify adverse trends, recurring problems, and opportunities to improve treatment, efficiency, and reliability
• Lead or support investigations and corrective actions involving corrosion, deposition, carryover, contamination, condenser leakage, treatment-system failures, equipment performance, and recurrent out-of-range conditions; verify implementation and effectiveness and document closure
• Develop operating, maintenance, outage, commissioning, and capital-improvement recommendations for boilers and associated water, steam, condensate, analyzer, and chemical-feed systems
• Maintain controlled procedures, specifications, records, and training materials
• Coordinate with division personnel, laboratories, vendors, contractors, and manufacturers while independently verifying technical recommendations
• Frequent travel to other divisions in California, Oregon, and Washington, including occasional multiple overnight stays away from home

About The Position

The general wage range for this position at Sierra Pacific Industries is from $75,000 and $95,000 per year, and is dependent upon a number of factors, including, but not limited to: relevant work experience, skill, knowledge, and/or education.
