Job summary

Greater Austin YMCA is seeking a Group Exercise Instructor to lead Cardio Dance Fit or Zumba, delivering fun, energetic classes while ensuring safety and inclusivity for all participants. You will arrive early, set up equipment, monitor participants, and enforce rules and policies, answer questions, and coordinate with staff to deliver YMCA health and wellness objectives.

Requirements include 18+, HS diploma or GED, beginner level fitness skills with 0–1 year experience and audition; valid First

Qualifications

• Must have beginner level fitness skills including 0--1 year of fitness/teaching experience.
• Must audition for Health & Wellness Director/Coordinator before teaching.
• Nationally recognized certification in specialty area(s) (i.e., YMCA Group Exercise Certification, Indoor Cycling, Zumba, Les Mills, etc.).
• Current First Aid/ CPR Certifications preferred (must be obtained within 30 days of employment).
• Growth mindset and willingness to learn from feedback.

Responsibilities

• Protect health, safety, and welfare of all participants by keeping fitness area safe and equipment clean.
• Encourage members to learn benefits of exercise and inform about other YMCA programs.
• Answer questions and address fitness-related concerns of members.
• Lead and/or co-teach classes as designated by supervisor.
• Arrive 7-10 minutes before class and start on time.
• Submit maintenance requests for gym equipment as needed.
• Be responsible for judging participant fitness levels and appropriate class level.
• Set up and put away equipment as needed.
• Follow YMCA Health & Wellness Program objectives and policies.
