SUMMARY: The RV Body Shop Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and restoring the structural integrity and aesthetics of recreational vehicles (RVs) that have sustained damage due to accidents, wear and tear, or other incidents. This role involves a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities to ensure the safe and efficient repair of RVs.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Inspect RVs to assess the extent of damage to body panels, frames, windows, roofs, and other structural components.
  • Identify mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues that might have resulted from the damage.
  • Document findings and provide accurate cost estimates for repair work.
  • Perform bodywork repairs, including metalworking, fiberglass repairs, welding, and panel replacement, to restore the RV's exterior appearance and structural integrity.
  • Repair or replace damaged windows, doors, hatches, and other components as needed.
  • Address mechanical and electrical issues, collaborating with other technicians as required.
  • Ensure all repairs meet industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting by sanding, priming, and masking.
  • Apply paint using various techniques, ensuring a smooth and consistent finish.
  • Blend paint colors to match the existing RV finish.
  • Apply clear coats and finishes to protect the painted surfaces.
  • Use frame straightening equipment to align RV frames that have been damaged in accidents.
  • Perform suspension repairs and alignments to ensure proper handling and stability.
  • Conduct thorough post-repair inspections to ensure all repairs meet quality standards.
  • Test and verify the functionality of repaired systems, such as lights, brakes, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Maintain detailed records of repairs, parts used, labor hours, and other relevant information.
  • Provide accurate and clear reports to customers and management regarding repair work, timelines, and costs.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to explain the repair process, address their concerns, and provide updates on the status of their RV.
  • Offer recommendations for preventative maintenance to extend the life of the RV and prevent future issues.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols while working with potentially hazardous materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, techniques, and regulations related to RV repairs.
Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in automotive repair or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as an RV technician, automotive body technician, or similar role.
  • Proficiency in using various hand and power tools for bodywork, painting, and repairs.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle mechanics, electrical systems, and plumbing.
  • Knowledge of welding techniques and frame alignment is a plus.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to produce high-quality work.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with customers and colleagues.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to work in various positions and environments.
  • Ability to follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work area.
Pay Range
USD $25.00 - USD $35.00 /Hr.
