Job summary

Kinsale Insurance is seeking a Claims Examiner in Richmond, VA to own the lifecycle of bodily injury casualty claims from investigation through resolution. You will interpret policy coverage, assess liability and damages, and coordinate with defense counsel for litigated claims in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, risk management, or a related field.
• 2+ years of professional work experience; prior commercial liability claims handling preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Confident negotiation skills and sound decision-making.
• Organizational and time-management strengths with multitasking ability.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Collaborative mindset for cross-functional work.
• Experience directing investigations and working with defense counsel is a plus.
• Ability to analyze medical records, contracts and litigation documents is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full lifecycle of bodily injury liability claims under supervision.
• Interpret policy coverage and draft professional coverage correspondence.
• Communicate coverage determinations to policyholders, brokers, and stakeholders.
• Conduct thorough investigations to evaluate liability, damages, and exposure.
• Manage litigated claims, including directing defense counsel.
• Drive litigation strategy toward efficient and fair resolution.
• Negotiate claims to resolution with sound judgment.
• Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and trials as needed.
• Maintain accurate, well-documented claim files.
