The City of New York’s Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges, is seeking a Civil Engineer II to conduct field surveys and inspections of bridges and retaining walls. You will monitor cracks, movements, and foundation settlements, and manage data collection for project databases at the 55 Water Street location in Manhattan.
Ideal candidates hold a New York State PE license and have at least four years of civil engineering experience.

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.
Under the direction of the Engineer in Charge (EIC), this position serves as a Civil Engineer Level II in the Monitoring and Survey Unit of the Bureau of Engineering Review and Support. The successful candidate will perform field surveys and visual inspections of bridges and retaining walls. Monitors cracks and movements in bridge structures as well as foundation settlement. Surveys bridge girder alignments and twisted movements in steel girders and floor beams due to accidents. Verifies field elevations to find existing vertical clearances of bridge structures. Operates survey equipment and office software for efficient monitoring of bridges and retaining walls. The candidate will collect field data and create a project database for each project. Other related duties may be assigned as necessary. The candidate must have driver's license valid in New York State. The candidate must possess a valid Professional Engineer (P.E) license in the State of New York.
Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written form.
Candidate must possess recent experience in operating survey equipment and have advanced knowledge of AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Windows.

A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required in “1" above.
In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
