Civil Service Title - Construction Project Manager II

* IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION, CANDIDATES MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE TITLE OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECT MANAGER, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE OPEN-COMPETITIVE LIST, EXAM # 169, OR EXAM # 3042, OR ELIGIBLE UNDER THE 55-A PROGRAM. PLEASE INDICATE THIS ON YOUR RESUME. PROOF OF FILING WILL BE REQUIRED.*

This position is for a Construction Project Manager II, serving in the Fabrication Engineering Unit within Quality Assurance / Bureau of Engineering Review and Support. Under general supervision, performs responsible project management work, including monitoring off-site inspection for acceptance and verification during the fabrication of Structural Steel and Prestressed/Precast Concrete bridge components. Responsibilities include overseeing inspection agencies, reviewing shop and design drawings, weld procedures, fabrication and repair procedures, and evaluating Non-Destructive Testing results, adhering to standards like AWS Structural Steel and Bridge Welding Code, NYSSCM, NYSPCCM, ASME, and ASTM. Travel to fabrication plants across the US and Canada may be required.

Preferred skills include effective verbal and written communication.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent, plus five years of full-time experience managing or inspecting construction projects costing at least $300,000 each year.
  2. One year of such experience plus a bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, construction, or related field.
  3. One year of such experience plus a valid professional engineer, architect, or landscape architect license.
  4. A high school diploma plus at least two years of experience as described in (1) and education as in (2), with credits substituting for experience (30 credits = 1 year), up to three years.

Candidates must specify details for each construction project worked on, including description, time period, work performed, and budget.

Driver License: Must hold a valid NY driver’s license at appointment, with restrictions disqualifying if there are moving violations, suspensions, or accidents.

For Level II: One additional year of satisfactory experience in Level I or as described above. For Level III: Two additional years in Levels I and II, plus a valid NY driver’s license.

Preferred Skills
