Civil Service Title - Civil Engineer II

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work;
2. A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

A master's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required above.

Preferred Skills:

1. Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
2. Recent experience in operating survey equipment.
3. Advanced knowledge using AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Windows.

Job Responsibilities:
Under the direction of EIC, serves as a civil engineer, level II, in the Monitoring and Survey Unit of the Bureau of Engineering Review and Support. Performs field survey and visual inspections of bridges and retaining walls. Monitors cracks and movements in bridge structures as well as foundation settlement. Surveys bridge girder alignments and twisted movements in steel girders and floor beams due to accidents. Verifies field elevations to find existing vertical clearances of bridge structures. Operates survey equipment and office software for efficient monitoring of bridges and retaining walls. Collects data from the field and creates a database for projects. Performs other related duties. The candidate must have a driver's license valid in New York State.
