Job summary

The New York City Department of Transportation, Division of Bridges is responsible for managing the full life cycle of over 800 bridges and tunnels and over 600 retaining walls, ensuring safety of the public and ensuring mobility for all users. Team members may work on major project designs, oversee construction, oversee maintenance activities, perform engineering reviews and quality assurance tasks on some of the most iconic and complex projects in the City.

Serves as a technical lead of Engineering Review & Support’s In-House Design Unit for the analysis and design of bridge foundations, providing innovative, safe, and cost-effective solutions for city bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects. This role requires extensive experience in geotechnical-structural interaction, deep and shallow foundation design, and coordination with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Performs difficult and technically complex analysis and design of bridge foundation systems, including drilled shafts, driven piles, micropiles, spread footings, and retaining structures. Develops foundation design calculations, reports, plans, specifications, and construction details in accordance with AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and applicable federal, state, and city standards. Reviews geotechnical reports and collaborates with geotechnical engineers to establish design parameters and foundation recommendations. Performs structural analyses related to foundation behavior, settlement, lateral loading, scour, and seismic effects. Provides technical oversight, quality assurance, and mentoring to junior engineers. Supports construction engineering by reviewing contractor submittals, responding to RFIs, and providing technical assistance during construction.

ADM ENGINEER (NON MGRL) - 1001A

Minimum Qualifications

• 1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
• 2. Six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.

Preferred Skills

Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel. NYS driver's license. Candidate should possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, experience serving as Engineer of Record for bridge projects, experience with complex transportation projects involving waterways, or major highway interchanges, familiarity with finite element analysis and advanced soil-structure interaction methods. Candidate should also possess experience mentoring junior engineers and leading multidisciplinary design teams.
