Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Rig, de-rig, maintain, and repair shells, oars, and related equipment for both programs.
• Maintain inventory of watercraft, oars, accessories, and spare parts.
• Assess equipment condition; coordinate purchases, repairs, or replacements with coaches.
• Ensure equipment meets safety standards and NCAA regulations.
• Manage boat trailer loading, securing, and transport for away regattas.
• Develop and maintain a maintenance program for equipment.
• Maintain boathouse, dock, and storage areas; ensure safety.
• Perform maintenance on ergometers and motors; coordinate with facilities staff.
• Coordinate equipment shipping for home/away regattas; serve as contact on regatta day.
• Assist head coaches with equipment budget; maintain maintenance records.

Boathouse Manager - Men's & Women's Rowing

About the Opportunity

The Boathouse manager serves as the primary equipment manager and technical resource for Northeastern University's NCAA Division I men's and women's rowing programs. Responsible for the maintenance, rigging, repair, and inventory of all rowing equipment, the Boathouse Manager ensures that both programs operate safely, competitively, and efficiently throughout the academic year. This role requires close collaboration with coaching staffs, student-athletes, and athletics department personnel.

Responsibilities Include:

Equipment Management

• Rig, de-rig, maintain, and repair all shells, oars, and relatedrowing equipment for both the men's and women's programs.
• Maintain a complete and accurate inventory of all watercraft,oars, accessories, and spare parts.
• Assess equipment condition regularly; recommend and coordinatepurchases, repairs, or replacements in consultation withcoaches.
• Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and conference/NCAAregulations.
• Manage boat trailer loading, securing, and transport logisticsfor away regattas.
• Develop and maintain an off-season program covering replacementand maintenance strategy for all equipment, including but notlimited to, rowing shells, oars, launches, rowing ergometers,trailers, and tow vehicles.

Boathouse & Facility Operations

• Maintain the cleanliness, organization, and safety of theboathouse, dock, and storage areas.
• Perform routine maintenance on ergometers, launch motors,safety equipment, and other program assets.
• Coordinate with athletics facilities staff on boathouse upkeepand capital improvements.
• Operate and maintain motorized coaching launches in compliancewith applicable regulations.

Regatta & Travel Support

• Attend home and away regattas to manage equipment logistics,set-up, and on-site repairs.
• Coordinate boat and equipment shipping for championship andout-of-region competitions.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment-relatedneeds on regatta day.

Administrative & Budget Support

• Assist head coaches in developing and managing the equipmentbudget.
• Maintain records of maintenance work, warranties, and vendorrelationships.
• Solicit bids and manage relationships with boat builders,riggers, and equipment suppliers.
• Ensure compliance with university purchasing policies.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of experience in rowing equipment management,boat rigging, or a closely related role.
• Strong working knowledge of rowing shell construction, rigging,and repair (sweep and sculling).
• Valid driver's license with experience towing trailers.
• Ability to operate motorized launches; Massachusetts BoatingLicense/Boating Safety Certificate required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and powertools.
• Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and occasionalholidays as required by the practice and competitionschedule.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and participate in physical tasksassociated with boat handling.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in an NCAA Division I or elite club rowingprogram.
• Background as a competitive rower, coxswain, or coach.
• Familiarity with RP3 and Concept2 ergometer maintenance andcalibration.
• Experience with carbon fiber and fiberglass repairtechniques.
• Knowledge of CAD/rigging software or manufacturer riggingspecifications.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness toobtain).

WOKING CONDITIONS

• Variable hours including early morning practices, weekends, andtravel periods throughout the fall and spring competitiveseasons.
• Outdoor work in all weather conditions; regular exposure towater environments.
• Physical demands include lifting, bending, climbing, andprolonged standing.
• Primary work location: Henderson Boathouse on the CharlesRiver, Boston, MA.
