Job summary

Roane County Schools seeks a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to provide comprehensive behavioral assessment, consultation, intervention planning, and training to support students with behavioral, social, emotional, and developmental needs.

The BCBA collaborates with school administrators, teachers, related service providers, and families to implement evidence-based strategies in the least restrictive environment.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, Education, or related field.
  • Current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) in accordance with IDEA and Tennessee State Board of Education Requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data to evaluate intervention effectiveness.
  • Utilize Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles to improve student outcomes.
  • Conduct observations in classroom and school settings to identify behavioral needs.
  • Coordinate with IEP teams and collaborate with district staff and families.
  • Provide training and coaching for teachers and staff in PBIS, de-escalation techniques, crisis prevention, data collection, and classroom behavior management.
  • Monitor fidelity of implementation and maintain documentation.

Education

Job Summary:

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) provides behavioral assessment, consultation, intervention planning, and training to support students with behavioral, social, emotional, and developmental needs. The BCBA collaborates with School Administrators, teachers, related service providers, and families to develop evidence-based behavioral intervention strategies that promote student success in the least restrictive environment. The BCBA ensures compliance with federal and state special education regulations and supports the district's efforts to create safe, inclusive learning environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Behavioral Assessment and Intervention
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) in accordance with IDEA and Tennessee State Board of Education Requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret behavioral data to evaluate intervention effectiveness.
  • Utilize Principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to improve student outcomes.
  • Conduct observations in classroom and school settings to identify behavioral needs.
  • Recommend evidence-based behavioral support and interventions.
Consultation and Collaboration
  • Consult with administrators, teachers, school psychologists, counselors, and related service personnel regarding student behavior.
  • Participate as a member of Individualized Education Program (IEP) teams.
  • Assist in determining appropriate behavioral programming and strategies that support consistency between school and home.
  • Coordinate with outside service providers when appropriate and authorized.
Professional Development
  • Provide training and coaching for teachers, instructional assistants, administrators, and other staff in:
    • Positive Behavioral interventions and Supports (PBIS)
    • De-escalation techniques
    • Crisis prevention strategies
    • Data collection methods
    • Classroom behavior management
Program Monitoring
  • Monitor fidelity of implementation for behavior intervention plans.
  • Review behavioral data and recommend adjustments to interventions.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and records.
Compliance
  • Ensure services comply with:
    • District policies and procedures
    • Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) Ethics Code
Other Responsibilities
  • Participate in district committees and professional learning opportunities.
  • Maintain Board Certified Behavior Analyst certification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education.
Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Master's degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, Education, or related field.

Certification

  • Current certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • An ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical Demands
  • Frequently sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach.
  • Respond quickly during behavioral crises when necessary.
  • Lift or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Work in classroom, school, and community environments.
  • Travel between district schools as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • School and classroom environments.
  • May be exposed to students exhibiting aggressive or unsafe behaviors.
  • Requires travel between schools throughout the district.
  • Occasional evening meetings or professional development activities.
Evaluation

Performance shall be evaluated annually by the Director of Special Education or designee in accordance with district evaluation procedures.
