Job summary

Young World Physical Education is seeking a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) in East Providence, Rhode Island to support students with behavioral, developmental, or social challenges through Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Job Description

CLASS DESCRIPTION: A school-based Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) focuses on using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to help students with behavioral, developmental, or social challenges succeed in an educational setting. Unlike clinical roles, this position is embedded in the school system, requiring heavy collaboration with teachers and administrators to integrate interventions into classroom routines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Adheres to the policies and related directives of the East Providence School Department.
  2. Promotes the attainment of the District’s Mission Vision and Strategic Plan.
  3. Conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) to identify the purpose behind challenging behaviors and evaluate students’ skill deficits.
  4. Develop and oversee individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) and skill acquisition programs that align with a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  5. Provide ongoing professional development for teachers and paraprofessionals on ABA principles, classroom management, and specific plan implementation.
  6. Design data collection systems to monitor student progress, analyze trends, and adjust interventions based on measurable results.
  7. Actively participate in IEP meetings and consult with parents, psychologists, and speech therapists to ensure a cohesive support system.
  8. Oversee and mentor Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) or BCBA candidates to ensure treatment fidelity.
  9. Apply current research‑based best instructional practices and strategies of ABA.
  10. Adhere to special education policies, complete relevant paperwork, present assessment data, and attend and actively contribute to special education meetings.
  11. Maintain accurate student records as a result of the monitoring.
  12. Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding student behavioral and social‑emotional functioning; communicate immediately with both when there are concerns.
  13. Have thorough knowledge of federal and state special education laws governing children with disabilities.
  14. Consult and collaborate regularly and professionally with colleagues, students and parents regarding student academic, behavioral and social‑emotional functioning.
  15. Take responsibility for personal professional growth.
  16. Participate in school events and in school and/or professional development.
  17. Oversee and monitor students receiving ABA in a clinical setting.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Director and/or Assistant Director of PPS.
Key Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of ABA‑based assessments (e.g., VB‑MAPP, ABLLS‑R) and evidence‑based methodologies.
  • Ability to translate complex clinical data into actionable strategies for non‑clinical school staff.
  • Familiarity with special education laws, including IDEA and FERPA.
  • Ability to work in high‑stress environments and adjust interventions to fit diverse classroom settings.
Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Current BCBA certification in good standing with the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
  • A Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Valid state license to practice behavior analysis, where required by local law.
  • Typically at least two years of practical experience in ABA, preferably within a school or pediatric setting.
  • Must possess a high degree of tact, diplomacy, and confidentiality.
  • Must be detail oriented with good organizational skills.
  • Must be proficient with computers.
