Job summary

The Ohio Department of Public Safety's Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Office of Vehicle Services, Dealer Licensing unit is seeking a BMV Investigator Associate in Columbus. You will conduct inspections at dealerships and auctions to ensure compliance and assist in investigations.

You will present inspection reports, testify before the Ohio Motor Vehicle Dealer Board and the Salvage Board, and monitor license plate usage. The position is full-time, with standard hours 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

Qualifications

  • 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in investigative or inspection procedures and techniques.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and report writing.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

Responsibilities

  • Independently conduct inspections at dealerships, salvage facilities, special plate holders & auctions for compliance and/or assist in collecting data for criminal investigations and/or utilize various databases to research and analyze BMV information and, in addition to preceding, work with higher level investigators to receive on the job training regarding motor vehicle investigations.
  • Conduct random and/or assigned inspections of motor vehicle dealers, salvage facilities, special plate holders, and auctions to collect data and establish facts for reporting findings.
  • Submit recommendation for approval or disapproval of inspections of motor vehicle dealers, leasing, and salvage vehicle dealers involving salespersons, in-transit and/or special plate permits, and auctions for dealer permits or compliance status.
  • Present inspection reports and testify as a witness before the Ohio Motor Vehicle Dealer Board and the Ohio Motor Vehicle Salvage Board pertaining to violations of dealer and salvage dealer licensure rules and regulations.
  • Monitor usage of dealer and special license plates and report any misuse to designated personnel.

What You'll Do As a BMV Investigator Associate
