Job summary

Syska Hennessy Group is seeking a performance-driven BMS Engineer/Consultant-IV for its Chicago or Richmond offices. The role focuses on coordinating instrumentation and controls activities, delivering BMS designs, and growing Syska’s smart-building services nationwide.

The ideal candidate will bring experience in BMS/EPMS/DCIM/SCADA systems, strong communication, and a solid understanding of IT/OT convergence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering; exceptional candidates may substitute significant experience in lieu of degree.
• 4-7 years of experience in the Controls and Instrumentation Industry as an Engineer, Consultant, Contractor, or Client Facility Manager.
• Thorough knowledge of HVAC/electrical instrumentation design and building control sequences of operations.
• Knowledge of building IT/OT infrastructure and a basic understanding of other low voltage technologies including security systems, lighting control systems, and fire alarm systems.
• Understanding of smart building technology convergence and IT/OT network integration for facilities.
• Knowledge of Building Analytics Software platforms, rules, formulas, and dashboards to identify energy conservation opportunities.
• Excellent organization skills and ability to work independently or in a team.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus but not required.
• Active involvement with ASHRAE, CABA, and similar organizations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Prepare BMS drawings, sequencing of operations, and specifications and perform system design calculations.
• Assist in selecting equipment for building systems and writing reports.
• Assist clients in vendor leveling/selection/procurement of best-of-breed solutions.
• Attend project meetings and interface with clients and contractors.
• Interface with internal PICs, PMs, site leaders, and practice area leaders.
• Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing project design teams.
• Support quality control and resource management with the senior engineer.
• Develop and maintain up-to-date BMS processes and standards.
• Participate in trade organizations and prepare presentations.
• Lead or supervise other staff on projects as directed by the senior engineer.
• Write proposals under the direction of a senior engineer for projects.
• Represent Syska Hennessy Group and interact with internal design teams and external clients.
