Job summary

BETA Technologies in South Burlington, Vermont, seeks a Battery Management System Engineer to own the BMS and Charge Control, from concept to prototype firmware and field debugging. You’ll work on embedded hardware and software to meet certification requirements and advance electric aviation.

The role requires broad knowledge of embedded systems, microcontroller timing, and system-level design, with hands-on involvement in hardware, firmware, and test environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, computer science, embedded systems, or related fields.
• Experience with electrical fundamentals, switching power supplies, and isolation/insulation strategies.
• Ability to operate lab equipment including power supplies, function generators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons, etc.
• Programming in C, C++, and Python.
• Experience with software development and debugging for embedded systems.
• Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Design battery and charge management systems with safety and fuel gauging.
• Provide support and improvements for existing hardware and software on aircraft.
• Write system, software, and hardware requirements for certification-intent charge controller.
• Lead development of new software and testing on hardware and in aircraft.
• Support debugging and testing in a certification environment.
• Collaborate with Ground Support Equipment (GSE) for seamless charging across platforms and EVSEs.
