Job summary

American Red Cross in Minnesota is seeking a dedicated driver for blood collection sites. You will transport equipment, set up and tear down, and welcome donors while following safety procedures.

The Red Cross offers paid phlebotomy training with the opportunity to grow healthcare skills within the nation’s top humanitarian organization. The role involves early mornings, weekends, holidays, and potential overnight travel.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A current, valid Class A or B CDL and a good driving record are required.
  • DOT certification is required and you must pass DOT physical requirements.
  • Experience driving large vehicles is strongly preferred.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver heavy weights and to work varied hours is required.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office are expected.

Responsibilities

  • Safely transport blood collection equipment and set up/tear down the site with team members.
  • Interact with donors to explain the donation process and its impact.
  • Create a welcoming environment to encourage donor return.
  • Ensure blood collection meets regulatory requirements and safety standards.

What You Need To Know (Job Overview)

Utilize your CDL and customer service skills to assist with every step of the blood collection process. This includes collaborating with your team to transport and set up equipment at the collection sites in local communities, creating a welcoming and comfortable environment for volunteer donors, and following all safety procedures while collecting lifesaving blood donations that are delivered to hospitals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely transport blood collection equipment, set up and tear down the site in collaboration with team members.
  • Take the time to personally connect with donors – listen to their stories and help them understand how impactful their donation is.
  • Collaborate with teammates to create a welcoming and friendly environment so our volunteer donors feel comfortable coming back again and again.
  • Be detail-oriented all day, every day. This ensures that the blood you collect meets goals, regulatory requirements and can be safely transfused.
Standard Schedule
  • Schedule is variable and may include early mornings, late nights, weekends and holidays. Overnight travel may be required in some locations.
  • Schedule is provided two to three weeks in advance.
Pay Information
  • Starting rate $24.57 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Customer service experience and effective verbal communication skills are required.
  • A current, valid driver’s license with Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and a good driving record is required.
  • Experience driving large vehicles is strongly preferred.
  • DOT certification is required. You must pass applicable DOT physical and related requirements and possess or obtain a medical certification of at least one‑year duration.
  • Physical requirements may include the ability to lift, push or pull heavy weights up and down ramps and stairs, good manual dexterity, the ability to sit or stand for long periods and adapt to long, irregular hours and frequent schedule changes are required. Position may require a minimum height of 60 inches to ensure the ability to safely operate Red Cross vehicles.
  • Basic computer skills are required. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior healthcare or phlebotomy experience (CNA, MA, EMT, etc.).
  • Prior leadership experience.
