Job summary

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center in Houston, TX seeks a Consultation & Reference Tech III to support 170 hospitals with antibody identification and compatibility testing. You will prepare consultation reports, manage sample requests, and ensure accurate blood component processing while adhering to safety and quality standards.

The role requires MT/MLS/BB certification (ASCP or equivalent) and a valid credential; two years of advanced blood banking experience may qualify for higher salary.

Qualifications

• MT/MLS/BB new graduate with ASCP certification or equivalent.
• Two years of advanced, recent blood banking experience for higher salary.
• Certification required at time of hire; official transcript must be provided.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate competency in essential functions of a Tech II.
• Perform, interpret, and document antibody identification, compatibility testing, and donor serological testing under the guidance of a Specialist.
• Prepare consultation reports.
• Evaluate and process sample requests according to guidelines.
• Record, place, and fill orders for antigen-negative red blood cells.
• Monitor blood component inventory.
• Prepare washed and deglycerolized red blood cells.
• Perform quality control and preventative maintenance.
• Prepare laboratory reagents.
• Enter rare cell and serum samples into the database.
• Follow all department SOPs, guidelines, rules, and regulations.
