Job summary

Capital Health in New Jersey seeks a Blood Bank Technologist to perform accurate testing using automated and manual methods, following infection control and QA standards. The role includes reporting results promptly and advising on atypical findings.

The technician will train and guide staff and students while ensuring proper sample handling and maintenance of equipment. 8-hour shifts, full-time, with benefits.

Qualifications

• Education: BS in science or HEW certification as a medical technologist.
• Experience: Previous clinical laboratory employment.
• Knowledge and Skills: Familiarity with personal computers; ability to interpret a variety of instructions.

Responsibilities

• Performs accurate and timely testing in Blood Bank; adheres to infection control and QA standards.
• Performs testing with automated equipment and manual methods; consults with supervisors/pathologists for atypical results.
• Reports clinical data promptly to caregivers to aid patient care.
• Performs workload statistics and basic data analysis relevant to methodologies.
• Instructs student technicians and staff, providing technical guidance as required.
• Demonstrates age-appropriate care during phlebotomy or other direct patient services.
• Prepares blood samples and body fluids for analysis and ensures sample identity.
• Uses quality control knowledge to accept or correct results and maintains equipment.
• Performs other duties as required.
