Job summary

IHA in Michigan is seeking a Blood Bank Supervisor to oversee day-to-day operations across shifts. You will coordinate inventory, review quality control values, maintain training and competency, and supervise staff performing tests in the clinical laboratory.

The role requires coaching and evaluating staff, ensuring testing meets CAP/CLIA/TJC accreditation, and collaborating with the Lab Manager to update policies and procedures while maintaining patient safety and reagent inventory.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in science/health field with lab internship.
• ASCP certification or equivalent required.
• Minimum five years in blood bank preferred.
• Experience coordinating staff and troubleshooting instruments.
• Experience overseeing staff 1–3 years preferred.

Responsibilities

• Supervise day-to-day activities to ensure quality test results are delivered to providers.
• Coordinate the day to day department testing within the hospital.
• Ensure staff follow proper procedures to maintain patient safety.
• Consult with nursing to investigate and follow up on patient safety issues.
• Oversees department training to deliver the best possible training to operators.
• Assures an adequate inventory of all reagents, quality control, and supplies.
• Collaborates with the Lab Manager to develop, write, revise and implement departmental policies, procedures and protocols.
