Job summary

Syracuse University is seeking a Biosafety Manager to lead the university biosafety program, serving as the designated Institutional Biosafety Officer and liaison with NIH, CDC, and other agencies.

The role oversees biosafety, chemical, radiological, and physical hazards, working with researchers and governance bodies to promote safety and compliance across the lab and institutional environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, life sciences, bioengineering, chemistry or related.
• 5+ years in an academic/research environment and/or lab safety management experience.
• Experience with infectious agents, cell culture, and recombinant DNA techniques.
• Knowledge of NIH Guidelines and BMBL/other safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive biosafety program ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
• Create procedures, guidance, and training materials for safe research with biohazardous materials.
• Review biohazardous material use applications and assess risk for IBC recommendations.
• Coordinate IBC operations, agendas, meetings, and minutes.
• Maintain NIH registrations and ensure ongoing federal compliance; liaison with agencies.
