Job summary

The University of Georgia in Athens is seeking a Director of Biosafety and Responsible Official to lead the Office of Biosafety and oversee the IBC and RO responsibilities. This senior role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local biosafety regulations while advancing the university's research mission.

Reporting to the Vice President for Research, you will manage biosafety programs, collaborate with external agencies, and guide a team to maintain safety, security, and regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent plus 10 years of professional experience to include 3 years of supervisory experience.
• Masters, PhD or DVM in related field of science preferred.
• Registered Biosafety Professional credentials preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Office of Biosafety, including staff supervision and program development.
• Serve as the Responsible Official for select agent program and regulatory certifications.
• Oversee biosafety programs and the Institutional Biosafety Committee.
• Collaborate with federal, state, and local authorities to ensure compliance and safety.
