Job summary

Battelle in Columbus, OH is seeking a Biomedical Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This full-time, onsite internship will immerse you in advanced cell culture models (organoids and microphysiological systems) and hands-on laboratory methods that generate high-quality data for safer, faster therapeutics.

You will work with a collaborative research team, develop assays, analyze results, and contribute to projects with real-world impact, mentored by experienced scientists while gaining exposure

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelors or master’s degree in Biology related fields.
• Must have at least two years of college coursework completed by the start of the internship.
• Basic knowledge of cell biology and laboratory techniques.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be US Person according to US export laws.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimize mammalian cell cultures, including organoids and microphysiological systems.
• Execute complex vitro assays, such as ELISA, qPCR, cell viability, and plate-based testing.
• Support the development, qualification, and validation of biological assays and laboratory equipment.
• Perform laboratory activities in accordance with study protocols, SOPs, GLP/ISO requirements, and biosafety practices.
• Document experimental activities, evaluate data quality, identify technical deviations, and assist with troubleshooting.
• Maintain laboratory readiness through equipment upkeep, reagent preparation, inventory management, and decontamination.
• Conduct biochemical and molecular assays (e.g., cytotoxicity, viability, gene expression).
