Battelle is seeking a Medical Devices Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 in Columbus, OH. You will work onsite with our Medical Device Solutions team, assisting engineers and designers in refining medical product designs and performing bench assessments.

The internship emphasizes hands-on learning, collaboration with industry experts, and exposure to Battelle's R&D processes. Candidates must be pursuing an engineering degree, have strong communication skills, and be able to work 4 days in-person

Qualifications

• Pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Biomedical Engineering, or related major.
• At least three years of undergraduate coursework completed by start of internship.
• Strong presentation and communication skills with stakeholders at all levels.
• Willing to work full-time in-person at least 4 days per week.
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Job Summary

The Medical Device Solutions team is a commercial facing, fast paced, fun group of designers, engineers, and other accomplished professionals dedicated to the problem solving and commercialization solutions related to bringing new medical technologies to market. We have an established client base, proven processes for product development, and a never-ending supply of problems to be solved to improve life on this planet.

We are currently seeking a Medical Devices Engineering Intern for Summer 2027. This position is onsite located in Columbus, OH. The application deadline is November 6th, 2026.

Responsibilities

Intern activities may include some or all of the following:

• Assisting full‑time engineers and designers with refinement of medical product designs
• Conducting bench evaluation (testing) or medical product designs at various stages of product development process
• Gaining exposure to Battelle internal R&D process for de‑risking early‑stage ideas and concepts with clear grounding in an innovation and concept generation process that is translatable to technologies outside of medical devices

Key Qualifications

• Must be currently pursuing bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical engineering, or related major
• Must have at least three years of undergraduate coursework completed by the start of the internship
• Strong presentation and communication skills
• Comfortable speaking with internal and external stakeholders and clients at all levels of the organization
• For Electrical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering majors: technical skills in board design, board layout and firmware development
• For Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering majors: technical skills in CAD, SolidWorks and part design
• Must be willing to work full time, in‑person at least 4 days per week
• Must be US Citizen

Compensation Data

The salary range for this role is $20.00 – $40.00 per hour, in addition to a $2,000 housing stipend for students relocating more than 50 miles from home and university. Internship pay is benchmarked against national averages taking into consideration a student's major and year in school.
