Summary
Biomedical Equipment Technician 1 performs skilled technical work in the repair and preventive maintenance of electronic, electromechanical, pneumatic and mechanical medical equipment. Performs all functions related to biomedical equipment, herein defined as clinical, surgical and diagnostic equipment used in the care of patients, and maintains accurate documentation of all services performed.
Responsibilities
Tests, repairs, calibrates, and performs preventive maintenance procedures on complex medical equipment. Trouble shoots electronic circuits to the component level. Reads and interprets schematic diagrams, service manuals and wiring sketches, and works in the English and Metric system. Uses a wide variety of test instruments in performing trouble shooting and repair procedures. Applies knowledge of basic hand tools and effectively uses those tools. Recognizes occupational hazards and observes safety precautions. Effectively uses metal turning lathe, drill press, grinders, and other general machine tools and associated hand tools. Accurately documents all aspects of work performed and maintains equipment records. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned. Furthermore, as needed, travel via public transportation or personal vehicle to other JHS facilities to inspect/maintain/repair equipment.
Experience
Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
Education
High School diploma is required.
Skill
Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.

Valid license or certification is required as needed, based on the job or specialty.

Working Conditions
Physical Requirements - Job functions requires extended walking or standing. Must be able to climb stairs/ladder, stoop, bend, crawl and perform repetitive motions as needed. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift , push or pull objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Function requires visual acuity to perform job related activities such as: operating machines or motor vehicles and performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a repetitive and non-repetitive nature. Certain jobs in this group may have specific physical abilities requirement.
