Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician to maintain, repair, and test medical devices across our facilities in northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin. The role involves working with healthcare staff, managing work orders, and ensuring patient safety.

The ideal candidate has an Associate degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics and at least 3 years of relevant experience, including radiology or anesthesia equipment. Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician is preferred.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or military equivalent certifications is required.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment.
• At least 1 year of Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia or other specialized healthcare equipment experience.
• Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI, CRES or CLES preferred; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Service a range of medical devices including monitors, ECGs, x-ray units, defibrillators, and sterilizers.
• Perform safety tests to protect patients and staff from hazards.
• Consult with medical staff to verify device functionality and safety.
• Enter and track work orders and asset information in the CMMS system.
• Assist with inventory management and departmental budgets.
• Possible travel and flexible hours as needed.

Job description

OVERVIEW This role maintains, repairs, and tests medical equipment to make sure it works properly and safely for patients and staff. The employee works with healthcare staff, coworkers, and equipment manufacturers, manages work orders and supplies, solves equipment problems, and may work flexible hours, weekends, travel, or at different locations.

SCHEDULE: 40-hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia.

Specializes in high-end equipment maintenance as assigned; I.E. Life support equipment.

Safety tests medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.

Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.

Acts as a resource for partners and provides support and assistance when needed.

Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department.

Modifies or develops instruments or devices, as assigned.

Works independently with minimal supervision, prioritize workload, and maintain the highest possible levels of quality and customer satisfaction.

Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their sales representatives to assure proper operation of equipment.

Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events.

May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends.

May require travel with personal or company vehicle.

May be assigned to any of Mercyhealth locations.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering/Electronics or related or related Military equivalent certifications required. Minimum of 3 years of experience in an environment that pertains to installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment; with at least 1 year Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Prosthetics or other specialized healthcare equipment experience that can be documented with coursework and/or certification from vendor.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI, CRES or CLES preferred. Maintain a valid driver's license Have and maintain driving record per Mercy’s HR-01 Fleet Safety policy.

Ability to understand and apply knowledge in technical manual, interpretive/analytical skills Ability to prioritize workload Good interpersonal/communication skills Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

PAY RANGE: $28.83 - $43.25
