Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a skilled facilities mechanic to maintain and repair hospital buildings, equipment, and critical utilities to keep the facility safe and operations continuous. You will perform preventive maintenance, respond to on-demand work orders, document tasks clearly, and communicate with staff while using CMMS and BAS to track progress.

The role requires 5–7 years in mechanical or electrical trades, preferably in a healthcare setting, with preferred certifications such as MEC H,

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 5–7 years' experience in mechanical or electrical trades, preferably in a healthcare setting.
  • Healthcare Mechanic Certification (M.E.C.H.) preferred; NIULPE Power Engineer certification or approved equivalent preferred; EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record per Mercyhealth policy.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and effective response to facility needs to maintain safety and avoid interruption of service.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and on-demand work orders for equipment and buildings within established time frames.
  • Monitors building areas for maintenance issues and reports problems to facilities staff; oversees building envelope, windows, doors, and related components.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots utility systems (boiler plant, chiller plant, ventilation, fire protection, refrigeration) to ensure optimal operation.
  • Completes mandatory documentation of tasks and communicates with customers, peers, and leadership using CMMS and BAS.

OVERVIEW

Maintains and repairs hospital buildings, equipment, and utility systems to keep the facility safe and running properly. Performs preventive maintenance, responds to repair needs, documents work, and communicates with staff while handling tasks such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and equipment repairs.

SCHEDULE

40-hours per week

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides a timely and effective response to unanticipated facility needs, minimizing risks to patient and team members, to maintain safety and avoid interruption of service. Performs and manages assigned tasks including preventive maintenance and on-demand work orders, on equipment and buildings, within the established time frames while meeting departmental expectations for quality of work. Monitors all areas of the building for maintenance issues including, but not limited to the building envelope (exterior siding system, windows, doors) etc.; recognizing problems and reporting to appropriate facilities staff grounds related issues or concerns, i.e. sidewalk issues, asphalt paving problems etc. Monitors, maintains and troubleshoots problems with the utility system within the building to ensure the proper and optimum operation including plumbing, mechanical, electrical, life safety and energy management systems. This includes being responsible for systems such as boiler plant, chiller plant, ventilation system, fire protection systems, refrigerator equipment and other hospital systems as may be assigned. Completes mandatory detail documentation of tasks performed including time spent performing tasks. Effectively communicates with customers, peers, and leadership. Knowledge in the use of a computer and related organizational programs, CMMS and BAS is required. This position installs televisions as required, maintains motors, fans, and other hospital equipment. This position will also require possessing an understanding of cooling tower and chiller functions, air filter properties and water treatment system operations in order to optimize operations of the system. This position will require intermediate carpentry, electrical, painting, plumbing, and tasks associated with HVAC.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent

Five to seven years' experience in mechanical or electrical trades preferably in a healthcare setting.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Healthcare Mechanic Certification (M.E.C.H.) preferred.

NIULPE Power Engineer certification or approved equivalent preferred.

EPA refrigerant handling certification preferred.

PAY RANGE

$21.00 - $30.45
