Job summary

Mercyhealth is seeking a skilled Biomedical Equipment Technician in Illinois to maintain, repair, and test a broad spectrum of medical devices, ensuring safety for patients and staff. You will collaborate with clinical teams, coordinate with vendors, and document work orders in the CMMS system.

With at least 3 years of experience and an associate degree in bio-medical engineering or electronics, you will also manage inventories and participate in budget-related tasks.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in bio-medical engineering/electronics or military equivalent certifications.
• Minimum 3 years installing, maintaining and repairing medical/electronic/mechanical equipment; at least 1 year in Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Prosthetics or related healthcare equipment experience.
• Certification as Bio-Medical Technician preferred; valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, and test a wide range of medical equipment.

• Enter and manage work orders/assets in the CMMS system.

Job description

OVERVIEW

This role maintains, repairs, and tests medical equipment to make sure it works properly and safely for patients and staff. The employee works with healthcare staff, coworkers, and equipment manufacturers, manages work orders and supplies, solves equipment problems, and may work flexible hours, weekends, travel, or at different locations.

SCHEDULE:

40-hours per week

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Services various equipment and apparatus including but not limited to patient monitors, electrocardiographs, blood gas analyzers, x-ray units, defibrillators, electrosurgical units, anesthesia apparatus, pacemakers, blood pressure transducers, spirometers, sterilizers, diathermy equipment and other related technical paraphernalia.
• Specializes in high-end equipment maintenance as assigned; I.E. Life support equipment
• Safety tests medical equipment to ensure patient and staff safety from electrical or mechanical hazards.
• Consults with medical or research staff to ascertain that equipment functions properly and safely.
• Acts as a resource for partners and provides support and assistance when needed.
• Demonstrates proficiency in entering, completing, retrieving information regarding work orders, assets, PM schedules, and other functions and applications of the CMMS database as pertains to daily operation of the department.
• Modifies or develops instruments or devices, as assigned.
• Works independently with minimal supervision, prioritize workload, and maintain the highest possible levels of quality and customer satisfaction.
• Works collectively with salesperson or service technician or equipment manufacturers or their sales representatives to assure proper operation of equipment.
• Participates in managing inventories and operational budget, taking emergency call and helping with special events.
• May be required to work flexible hours, alternate shifts and weekends.
• May require travel with personal or company vehicle.
• May be assigned to any of Mercyhealth locations.

E DUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Associate Degree in Bio-Medical Engineering / Electronics or related or related Military equivalent certifications required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in an environment that pertains to installing, maintaining and repairing medical, electronic and/or mechanical equipment; with at least 1 year Radiology, X-ray, Lab, OR, Dialysis, Anesthesia, Prosthetics or other specialized healthcare equipment experience that can be documented with coursework and/or certification from vendor.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

• Certification as a Bio-Medical Technician by AAMI, CRES or CLES preferred.
• Maintain a valid driver's license
• Have and maintain driving record per Mercy's HR-01 Fleet Safety policy

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Ability to understand and apply knowledge in technical manual, interpretive/analytical skills
• Ability to prioritize workload
• Good interpersonal/communication skills
• Knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management System; Inventory software; Manufacturing software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

PAY RANGE: $28.83 - $43.25
