Job summary

NAES Corporation in Altavista, Virginia, seeks an Auxiliary Plant Operator to support the safe, reliable operation of a 51 MW biomass power station. You will handle start-up/shutdown, fuel handling, boiler and auxiliary systems, and document operations.

You will perform inspections, troubleshoot, and coordinate with the control room to maintain compliance and efficiency. The role requires 12-hour shifts on a 4-on/4-off rotation, with potential overtime and a focus on safety and regulatory

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or certification in Power Plant Technology, Process Operations, or a related field preferred.
• Experience in power generation or heavy industrial operations; biomass, waste-to-energy, or boiler-based steam generation experience preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, equipment manuals, and operating procedures; basic thermodynamic principles.
• Knowledge of emissions control equipment (baghouse, scrubbers, SCR) and safety practices including Lockout/Tagout.

Responsibilities

• Assist with start-up, shutdown, and routine operation of biomass plant systems in accordance with SOPs and safety requirements.
• Operate and monitor biomass fuel conveyors, ash handling, air compressors, boiler feedwater, emissions control equipment, and other plant auxiliaries.
• Conduct routine rounds, inspections, diagnostics, and performance checks; report abnormal conditions and take corrective action.
• Perform minor repairs, adjustments, and troubleshooting on assigned equipment as qualified.
• Follow Control Room Operator instructions to place equipment in service or safely remove it; perform Lockout/Tagout and validations.
• Maintain accurate operating logs, shift reports, and equipment records; document and approve Tag Outs when trained.
• Support maintenance activities and use CMMS to document work performed and track equipment conditions.
• Follow environmental, safety, regulatory, and company procedures to ensure reliable plant operations.
• Work four-days-on, four-days-off, 12-hour shift rotations; extended hours and on-call as needed.
