Job summary

KCAS Bio in Kansas City is seeking a Sr. Scientist to advance biomarker method development. You will design, develop, optimize, and troubleshoot ligand binding assays (LBA) to support biomarker work in bioanalytical settings.

You will partner with internal teams and clients, providing scientific guidance and training, ensuring robust assay performance and regulatory compliance across studies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field with at least 5 years in a bioanalytical laboratory environment.
• Demonstrated depth of biomarker method development, including biomarker assay development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with LBA platforms (ELISA, MSD) or similar immunoassays.
• Ability to independently design experiments, evaluate assay performance, troubleshoot challenges, and optimize conditions.
• Strong understanding of assay performance characteristics (precision, accuracy, sensitivity, selectivity, specificity, robustness).
• Experience in regulated bioanalytical environments (QA, GLP/GxP).
• Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to mentor staff.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, optimization, and troubleshooting of ligand binding assays with a focus on biomarker methods.
• Design experiments and independently evaluate assay performance to establish robust methods.
• Develop and optimize assay conditions, reagents, controls, and workflows for complex challenges.
• Apply scientific judgment to evaluate performance characteristics and troubleshoot issues.
• Support method qualification, validation, and transfer activities as appropriate.
• Provide technical training and mentorship to junior staff.
• Communicate findings, recommendations, and risks to internal teams and clients.
• Collaborate with QA and scientific teams to ensure compliant activities.
