Job summary

William & Mary seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology (Microbiology) beginning August 10, 2027. We value research and teaching expertise in microbiology with emphasis on microbial applications to biotechnology and/or biomedical sciences.

Duties include research, teaching, and service with a vibrant externally funded program involving undergraduate and graduate students in facilities with biosafety level not exceeding BSL-2.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. by August 10, 2027 in microbiology or related field.
• 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline to be taught.
• Postdoctoral experience is required.
• Ability to develop an externally funded research program with undergraduates.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research, teach undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to service.
• Establish and maintain an externally funded research program with undergraduates as assistants.
• Teach a sophomore microbiology course with labs and an advanced course in the field.
