Job summary

The Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech seeks applicants for two tenure-track assistant/associate professor positions in Molecular Microbiology. Ideal candidates will use molecular techniques to study bacteria, fungi, and viruses and build a long-term, extramurally funded program.

Responsibilities include teaching courses in molecular microbiology and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, with strong collaboration across the university and programs like CeZAP and Fralin

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant discipline with demonstrated research accomplishments in molecular microbiology.
• Ability to develop and teach courses in microbiology and related areas.
• Proven written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain an externally funded research program in molecular microbiology.
• Teach courses in molecular microbiology, microbial genetics, physiology and/or pathogenesis.
• Advise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.
• Collaborate across departments and internal programs such as CeZAP and Fralin institutes.
