Job summary

Salt Lake Community College seeks a Learning Assistant in the Biology Department to support pre-major biology and pre-health science students. You will assist instructors, tutor peers, help prepare courses, and keep classrooms and Canvas organized. This role emphasizes welcoming instruction and inclusive teaching.

Hours range from 2 to 20 per week, depending on course needs. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and reside in Utah per policy.

Qualifications

• Completion in the college biology (BIOL) course in which they will assist with a B or above grade.
• Received or eligibility to receive a Federal Work Study Award for Academic Year 2026-2027.
• Minimum 2.0 GPA
• Enrolled in at least 6 credit hours for both Fall and Spring semesters.
• General knowledge of basic biology. Knowledge of the content that pertains directly to the course they will be an aide for. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.

Responsibilities

• Aide students with classroom or laboratory activities under supervision.
• Provide peer-tutoring on topics and assist the instructor in course preparation.
• Provide general maintenance/organization of classroom and Canvas spaces, and/or grade formative assessments.
• Hours typically range from 2-20 hours per week, depending on curricular needs as determined by the course instructor.
