Job summary

Salt Lake Community College is seeking a student-centered Biology adjunct instructor to prepare and teach college-level biology courses. The role includes managing Canvas, assessing student learning, and ensuring alignment with department and college policies.

The position is pool-based with variable schedules; evening classes may be required. Compensation is per instructional unit with standard expectations for professional responsibilities and ongoing development.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Biology is required.
• Experience teaching biology courses is expected.
• Ability to provide ADA accommodations and to adhere to FERPA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Teaches courses consistent with department procedures, appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description.
• Teaches assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets required contact hours; uses resources and technology for delivery.
• Creates an effective, supportive learning environment for students regardless of delivery method; maintains a respectful instructional environment; submits incident reports as needed.
• Provides each student with an online syllabus (Simple Syllabus) on the first day of the term.
• Incorporates active and applied learning through hands-on and engaged activities.
• Uses a variety of appropriate assessments to evaluate student performance.
• Provides timely feedback on assignments and posts grades by deadlines.
• Promotes development of critical thinking among students.
• Maintains attendance records and grades for Financial Aid purposes.
• Responds to voicemail and email promptly within 1-2 contract days; resolves concerns by semester end.
• Collaborates with colleagues for instructional improvement.
• Maintains professional and collegial behavior and participates in mentorship programs.
• Maintains professional appearance per college standards.
• Promotes the mission, vision, values, and goals of the College.
• Maintains required educational credentials and professional skills.
