Job summary

Salt Lake Community College is seeking an adjunct Biology instructor to teach college-level biology courses, manage the learning environment, and assess student outcomes using established guidelines.

The successful candidate will join an active department, engage in evidence-based instructional practices, and may teach at any SLCC location with possible evening assignments. Commitment to open-access education is expected.

Qualifications

• Masters Degree in Biology in an accredited program or closely related field with 18 graduate credit hours of Life Science coursework.

Responsibilities

• Teaches courses consistent with department procedures, appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description.
• Teaches assigned classes at the scheduled time and place and meets during required contact hours. Uses appropriate resources and technology in the delivery of courses.
• Creates an effective, supportive learning environment for students regardless of the delivery method. Maintains a safe and respectful instructional environment and submits incident reports as defined by college policy.
• Provides each student with an online syllabus (Simple Syllabus) at the first day of the course term.
• Demonstrates incorporation of active and applied learning in courses taught (hands-on and engaged activities).
• Uses a variety of appropriate assessments to evaluate student performance.
• Provides timely feedback on assignments and submits grades by deadlines.
• Promotes development of critical thinking among students.
• Maintains student attendance records and grades.
