Salem Academy and College in Winston-Salem, NC, seeks a Biology adjunct instructor to teach the lecture portion of Principles of Biology for non-majors, Tue/Thu mornings in Fall 2026. You will develop syllabi, assignments and CMS content, and assess student work.
You will collaborate with the Biology Laboratory Coordinator and maintain attendance records and communications with students via the Salem College CMS and email. Office hours and periodic meetings with Biology faculty are required.

The Biology adjunct instructor teaches the lecture for a course in the Biology program, preparing and delivering in-person learning activities designed to achieve course outcomes. Specifically, this position is needed to teach the lecture portion of Principles of Biology, an introductory course in biology for non-majors, Tuesdays and Thursdays 8:00-9:20 am for the Fall 2026 Semester.
In consultation with the Biology Laboratory Coordinator, who will teach the lab component of the course, the adjunct instructor will develop course materials, including a syllabus, homework assignments, and content for the Course Management System (CMS). They will evaluate and grade students' class work, online work, assignments, and examinations and hold a minimum of two regularly-scheduled office hours per week throughout the semester.
They must maintain and submit student attendance records, grades, and other required documentation by specified deadlines, as well as prepare and maintain course materials within the Salem College CMS for each course taught and communicate with enrolled students and the Laboratory Coordinator through a Salem email account. Additionally, they will participate in periodic meetings with one or more members of the Biology program faculty.
While performing the responsibilities of the course instructor, the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds; occasionally stand and walk; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation and view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in a classroom setting.
