Job description

Biological Scientist I in the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Division of Animal Industry, performs bacteriology and mycology testing in a veterinary diagnostic laboratory. The role involves isolation and identification of bacterial and fungal pathogens from animal samples, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, maintenance of laboratory records in the LIMS system, and quality assurance activities. This is an internal-only position available only to current FDACS employees.

• Bachelor's degree in biological, physical, natural, or agricultural sciences from an accredited college or university
• Valid Class E driver license
• Ability to pass pulmonary function test with medical evaluation and fit-testing for respirator use
• Knowledge of bacterial and mycotic pathogen isolation and identification techniques
• Experience with laboratory information management systems and quality assurance practices
