Job summary

Harvard University is seeking an Associate Biological Safety Officer to join the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Biosafety Team. The role provides tech support, assists in implementing biosafety programs, and helps maintain a safe laboratory culture across Harvard schools.

The position focuses on safety training, compliance, risk assessment, and collaboration with researchers and facilities teams. It offers a pathway for growth in biosafety with a rotating emergency response component.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum of 3 years related work experience.
• Willingness and excitement to learn and grow in biosafety.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates integration of biosafety into laboratory operations and promotes safe work practices.
• Collaborates with EHS Lab Safety Advisors to perform inspections and hazard assessments.
• Authors timely, peer‑reviewed compliance reports and monitors corrective actions.
• Conducts risk assessments of biological research protocols and participates in COMS meetings.
• Delivers and assists in biosafety training and develops related policies.
• Assists with regulatory site visits and supports additional EHS projects.
