An application made for this job — a tailored resume and cover letter that speak straight to the posting.
Serova, a patient-centric biotech startup, seeks a bioinformatician to design and operate patient-specific analysis workflows. You will work closely with patients and clinicians, tailoring analyses to individual data, and turning complex results into understandable insights that guide treatment decisions.
You will monitor sequencing results across time, identify meaningful patterns, and collaborate with the clinical team to propose personalized treatment plans.
About Serova
Serova builds personalized cancer vaccines. Each vaccine is made for the individual patient from their own samples and given in partnership with their treating physician. We work directly with patients, more like a consumer health company than a hospital, so our data work is about real people with real questions.
The role
We work directly with patients, more like a consumer health company than a hospital. Patients and their physicians come to us with questions about their own data.
You'll work closely with patients on their own data: building custom workflows for each one, monitoring and analyzing their results over time, and helping find treatments and build treatment plans tailored to them.
What you'll do
Build custom analysis workflows for each patient
Monitor and analyze patient sequencing and test results over time
Help find personalized treatments and build treatment plans with our clinical team
Answer ad hoc questions from patients and physicians quickly, and explain the results clearly
Who you are
A bioinformatician who likes being close to the patient
You turn around a question on one patient's data in hours, not weeks
You can explain a result to someone who isn't a scientist
High agency, friendly and low ego
Requirements
A PhD in bioinformatics or computational biology, or 3+ years doing it in industry
Hands-on experience with real patient sequencing data: WES, WGS or RNA-seq
Comfortable with software engineering: you write production-quality code, not only one-off scripts
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area or London, or willing to relocate
Authorized to work in the US or UK, or a realistic path to get there
What will make you stand out
Fast-paced startup experience: you've shipped production code in a small team, not only academic or purely mathematical work
Patient-facing or clinical genomics, such as clinical reporting, tumor boards, or answering questions for patients and physicians
Cancer genomics: somatic variants, HLA typing, neoantigen prediction, ctDNA
Experience at a sequencing platform or diagnostics company
Comfort with quick, well-documented ad hoc analyses, not only long projects
Clear communication with patients, physicians and care teams
