Job summary

Axle is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to turn microscopy data from the autonomous lab into actionable readouts. The Fellow will build image analysis and bioinformatics pipelines, integrate environmental data, and deliver quantitative results to guide next experiments.

The role is hybrid and involves collaboration with engineers, biologists, and data scientists. Requirements include a PhD in a quantitative field and strong Python/image-analysis skills.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in bioinformatics, computational biology, biomedical engineering, computer science, physics, or related quantitative field.
• Experience analyzing microscopy images with segmentation and quantitative feature extraction.
• Strong Python and imaging libraries; experience with ML frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow or similar).
• Statistics and experimental design grounding; experience validating analysis methods.
• Reproducible analysis practices; Git and Linux/HPC experience.
• Research output such as peer‑reviewed publications or released software.
• Ability to collaborate with automation engineers and biologists; clear communication.
• Ability to obtain NIH/HHS security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain automated Cytation 9 image analysis pipelines.
• Define metrics for culture state and growth for the autonomous loop.
• Deliver analysis results to the workflow orchestration layer with robust interfaces.
• Integrate environmental monitoring data with imaging results.
• Apply statistical, ML, and deep learning methods to image and multimodal data.
• Integrate omics data with image-derived phenotypes.
• Publish methods and results; document pipelines; train staff.
