Job summary

Advocate Health Care in North Carolina is seeking a Laboratory Technician for the Wake Forest University Health Sciences - Academic Biochemistry department. This full-time role supports standardized chemical and biological testing in a clinical research environment, with a Monday–Friday schedule and 40 hours per week.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate's degree in biotechnology or a related field and possesses strong communication, basic computer skills, and knowledge of medical terminology

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in biotechnology or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
• Knowledge of medical terminology to interact with medical staff regarding lab procedures and results.
• Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.
• Knowledge of common safety hazards and universal precautions to establish a safe work environment.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and record-keeping.

Responsibilities

• Conducts standardized chemical and physical tests on experimental or clinical materials/specimens.
• Operates a balance and other standard laboratory equipment for mixing, weighing, and preparing specimens for analysis.
• Makes minor adjustments to calibrate various types of physical testing and electronic equipment.
• Assists higher-level technicians in microanalysis, enzyme studies, chromatographic studies on tissues and secretions.
• Assists with animal-related experiments by restraining and monitoring as needed.
• Feeds animals per prescribed diets and maintains cleanliness and sanitary conditions.
• Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
