Job summary

Amazon is seeking a Software Development Engineer II for the Billing Data Services team to build and operate the foundational systems that capture, store, and serve the billing facts AWS relies on. You will work on large-scale, distributed systems, ingesting billing data from across AWS, ensuring freshness and accuracy, and partnering with downstream teams on data contracts and migrations.

The role impacts millions of customer bills and sits on the critical path of Billing.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

• Write high-quality, efficient, and testable code in Java and other object-oriented languages.
• Build large-scale, highly available distributed systems for ingesting, storing, and serving authoritative billing data at the scale of all of AWS.
• Design storage and serving paths that meet demanding freshness, accuracy, and latency requirements for downstream billing pipelines.
• Partner with downstream teams on schema and data contract changes, making sure migrations are backward compatible and do not disrupt their pipelines.
• Own and operate the systems you build, holding a high bar for data quality, correctness, and operational rigor.
• Contribute to planning, design, implementation, testing, operations, and process improvement as a member of a Scrum team.
• Collaborate with product managers and engineers across Commerce Platform teams to deliver features and drive the adoption of best practices.
