Job summary

Fitch Even is seeking a Billing Analyst to support the Accounting department with client invoicing, bank reconciliations, and accounts payable in a law-firm setting. The role partners with attorneys and vendors to ensure accurate, timely financial processing and compliance with firm policies and client guidelines.

The candidate should have at least two years of billing or related finance experience, strong Excel skills, and exposure to electronic billing platforms.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

Job description

Fitch Even is seeking to expand our team with a talented billing professional.

The Billing Analyst supports the Accounting department by preparing and processing client invoices, assisting with bank reconciliations, and performing accounts payable functions for a law firm environment. This role helps ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial transactions in accordance with firm policies, client billing guidelines, and applicable procedures. The Billing Analyst works closely with attorneys, legal professionals, vendors, and members of the Accounting team to resolve billing issues, support cash management activities, and maintain reliable financial records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, edit, and finalize client invoices in accordance with attorney instructions, client billing guidelines, and firm procedures.
• Coordinate with attorneys, paralegals, and other internal stakeholders to resolve billing questions, obtain approvals, and ensure invoices are submitted accurately and on time.
• Process electronic billing submissions and monitor invoice status, rejections, appeals, and resubmissions as needed.
• Follow up with clients regarding outstanding balances and collections matters, coordinating with attorneys and accounting leadership as appropriate to support timely payment resolution.
• Assist with monthly bank reconciliations, including researching discrepancies, preparing supporting documentation, and ensuring timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Perform accounts payable functions, including reviewing vendor invoices, coding expenses, obtaining approvals, entering payments, and maintaining supporting records.
• Maintain accurate billing, reconciliation, and accounts payable files in accordance with firm retention and confidentiality standards.
• Generate, review, and analyze billing, payment, accounts payable, and reconciliation reports using Microsoft Excel and other firm systems.
• Identify process improvements and support the use of technology, reporting tools, and automation to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Monitor, document, and report time entries to support accurate recordkeeping and workflow management.
• Perform other accounting and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualified candidates must have strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage deadlines in a professional services or law firm environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. Experience with SharePoint, LMS, Power BI, SurePoint, Microsoft Copilot, or other AI-enabled tools is a plus.

Education & Certification

• Associate’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Equivalent relevant experience may be considered.

Experience

• Two or more years of billing, accounting, accounts payable, or related finance experience required.
• Law firm or professional services billing experience strongly preferred.
• Experience with electronic billing platforms, client billing guidelines, bank reconciliations, and vendor payment processes preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, including formulas, sorting, filtering, formatting, and pivot tables.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, recurring deadlines, and time-sensitive requests.
• Clear, professional communication skills and ability to work effectively with attorneys, staff, vendors, and Accounting team members.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling financial, client, vendor, and personnel information.
• Comfortable learning and using technology tools to improve accuracy, reporting, workflow management, and process efficiency.

This position will be based in our Chicago office. At this time, employees are required to be in the office two days per week.

Salaries vary by location and are based on numerous factors, but not limited to, the relevant market, skills, experience, and education of the selected candidate. If an estimated salary range for this role is available, it will be provided in our Salary Range section. Our compensation package also includes bonus eligibility and a comprehensive benefits program as outlined below.

Target Salary Range

$65,000 - $75,000
