Job summary

East Orange is seeking a dedicated peer counselor lactation consultant to support the WIC program. You will provide breastfeeding information, assist mothers with common concerns, and help them overcome barriers in clinic, home or by phone.

Under supervision, you will promote breastfeeding as the default nutrition method, make referrals, and maintain accurate client records. Preference for bilingual applicants to better serve diverse communities.

Qualifications

• IBCLC certification is required for the role.
• Bilingual abilities are highly encouraged to support diverse clients.
• Strong knowledge of breastfeeding techniques and counseling approaches.

Responsibilities

• Disseminate breastfeeding information in WIC clinics, hospitals, home or by phone.
• Provide peer counseling on common breastfeeding questions and barriers.
• Promote breastfeeding as the normal method and help solve client barriers.
• Refer to appropriate professionals or programs as needed.
• Maintain client records and conduct periodic outreach on caseload.
• Attend breastfeeding workshops and continue education as appropriate.
• Read assigned materials and provide breastfeeding support beyond clinic hours.
