Job summary

Maricopa County Department of Public Health is seeking a WIC Intake Specialist to determine WIC eligibility, conduct screenings, and educate participants on nutrition benefits. You will support breastfeeding promotion and assist with staff training while working in a dynamic public health setting.

The role emphasizes client-centered service, accurate documentation, and collaboration across clinics to serve over 40,000 participants monthly in a mission-driven program.

Qualifications

• Bilingual in Spanish/English at advanced proficiency.
• Two years of public contact experience in public health, medical services, social, or human services.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
• Experience assessing client eligibility for public assistance programs.
• Experience working in a WIC program.

Responsibilities

• Assesses WIC program eligibility based on federal regulations and guidelines.
• Performs administrative duties such as answering phones, monitoring clinic emails and text messages, scheduling appointments, and providing excellent customer service.
• Performs hemoglobin screening tests and anthropometric measurements on women, infants, and children.
• Provides client-centered information on nutrition benefits and how to redeem benefits.
• Informs participants of rights and obligations and documents in HANDS system and DocuSign.
• Promotes breastfeeding and assists with pumps and sanitization.
• Participates in ongoing training and keeps knowledge of WIC policies current.
