Job summary

County of Marin’s WIC program seeks a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor to provide education, encouragement, and peer support to pregnant and breastfeeding participants across clinics and outreach activities.

The role requires bilingual Spanish/English proficiency, the ability to maintain records, and compassionate communication with diverse communities. Training and supervision are provided; travel between County locations may be necessary.

Qualifications

• Six months of breastfeeding experience and current or past participation in a WIC Program.
• Attend and pass a 25-hour Loving Support through Peer Counseling course within 60 days of appointment.
• May be required to work outside normal hours.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic breastfeeding education, encouragement, and peer support to pregnant and breastfeeding participants.
• Deliver services through scheduled phone contacts, clinic visits, hospital visits, and other approved interactions.
• Maintain assigned caseload and accurate documentation in program records.
• Refer participants to IBCLC, healthcare providers, or community resources when needed.
• Participate in breastfeeding promotion activities and team meetings.
